I ended up acquiring that thing from a few weeks ago. $500 for this fantastic performance machine with a paltry quarter million miles!
Truthfully, it’s pretty good. Very solid with only minor dings. The paint isn’t awful, and it seems to run quite well until it doesn’t. The fuel pump is rather noisy and after pulling a short data log, it’s running EXTREMELY lean, so it should run fine after a new fuel pump and filter. The interior is gross, but should clean up nicely with some elbow grease and parts from the Pick-N-Pull. I’ve managed to Clorox/air it out enough that the cigarette stink has overcome the mold smell, so that’s something.
I may end up skipping the Gambler route with it and just dive right into the engine swapping/making it fast. If the Gambler actually happens (apparently there’s some sort of bug going around and people are cancelling events? maybe you’ve heard...) I’ll just take my Jeep, I suppose.
The plan: LQ4, an undetermined cam, 243 heads, 4L80, 3800 stall converter, narrowed explorer 8.8 with Trac Lock and 4.10s, 150-ish shot of nitrous.
Parts acquired thus far: 4L80, 243 heads and a gross Blazer. C’mon stimulus check!

This is awesome! I can’t wait to hear more about this as it progresses!
If you come up with a good source for axles let me know. I’d like to find a pair of Ranger FX4 Level II axles - those are the heavy duty 31 spline, 4.10 gears, Torsen diff, and disc brakes. I need to swap tubes and axles to make a narrow one for my Volvo project and my friend is interested in making a wide one for a project he’s working on.

The Explorer rears from ‘96(?)+ came with 31 spline axles. I plan to grab two short-side aches and an Explorer housing from pick n pull for around $180, then I’ll shorten the long side to allow for the use of the short side axle. That’ll get it really close to the width of the 10-bolt. This project is going to be 90% junkyard-sourced.

Your new Blazer sure has a funny hat.
Buy an ozone machine and lock it in for the weekend. That’ll help.

I’m planning to do the same with my Volvo, source as much OEM stuff as I can from junkyards. I like the Ranger axles because they also came with the Torsen limited slip. Otherwise, they are the same as the Explorer axles. But finding the specific ranger ones is a bit tough since it was only on the top trim package trucks.

I’m planning to do a major deep-clean. I've had great results in the past with removing the carpet, soaking it in a tub of oxy clean for a few days, then pressure washing it and leaving it out in the sun. Then I'll shampoo the heck out of the seats and scrub down all the plastics. It's a bit of a process, but it yields fantastic results.

These always seemed like good value for money. When I bought my Tahoe, you could pick up similar condition Blazers for about half the price. If all I’d wanted was a 4WD SUV I would have been tempted, but at the time I wanted more space, hauling, and towing abilities.

Interesting roof top box. Who makes it?

Ha!
It actually really sucks and requires $.75 worth of quarters any time you want to use it.

They’re total crap ‘90s GM build quality, but they're cheap and easy to modify. This one's 2wd, which is why I bought it- and I have always liked the look of the 2nd gen 2 door body.

I’d like you to scrub my truck seats. Doggo and kids have wrecked havoc on the back seat. I don’t really want to get into it and scrub it.
